In July we went on our breakfast run down to Penzance for the usual English breakfast at Sullivans diner on the corner of the harbour car park. It was yet again a really pleasant day and a good early morning drive. We then went to the Geevor mine just on from Penzance and had a tour around the workings which have only been closed for a few years. The mines are on the top of the cliffs and although it was lovely for our visit it is easy to appreciate how miserable it must have been for all those who worked there in centruries past, existing on bread and water.
On Saturday 4th September we met with assorted other soft tops for our Breakfast
Run. A Caterham , a Rover, an MG and a Low Cost home brew. We set off with tops
down although it was a little damp and misty. At Wadebridge we met up with an
AC Cobra and then continued to Penzance for our rendezvous with the fast food
mobile at the edge of the car park.
As it was still before 9am we were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and spend more time talking about (admiring) the different cars in our group. The mist began to lift and the sun appeared and remained with us for the rest of the day. We went via Marazion and then on to the Lizard where there was slight confusion as one of our party was determined to make use of his National Trust membership for parking, not realising that the car park by the café is free. We sat outside, looking over the cliffs and enjoyed our coffee.
We then continued our route to Falmouth and Truro, arriving at the King Harry Ferry about noon. On leaving the ferry we turned left to Tolverne and the Smugglers Cottage for a few light refreshments. The sun was really warm in this secluded spot and we spent some time looking at all the information about the wartime exploits of this area. After lunch we returned home satisfied with a good days driving on good roads, with not too much traffic.
