About Us
We have been dairy farming at Newlands since 1981 and have built up a herd of 180 Friesian cows and followers. Despite the demands of the farming business we have always been determined to have time off, following our hobbies and interests.
In 1996 we decided to hire a Caterham 7 for the weekend. This involved a drive from North Devon to Caterham to pick up the car on Friday afternoon, travelling back to Newlands Friday evening. After the hustle and bustle of the M25 we were looking forward to the open road driving in Devon and Cornwall. We drove to the Lizard on Saturday morning stayed the night and then returned to Devon on Sunday and then back to Caterham on Monday. The whole weekend had some 600 miles of driving a superb car with the wind in your hair and very little traffic.
A year later we purchased a Westfield and have made several trips to France and around England for holidays and weekends. Visiting Chamonix and the Dordoigne, and several visits to Castle Coombe for track days and driver training days. Part of the fun of owning a kit car is the work involved in maintaining and improving the specification, especially as each improvement has to be tested with a breakfast run to Penzance leaving at 6am!
The continuation of this hobby, has led us to purchase a part finished project which we completed in the summer. So we now have another Westfield, 16 valve 2 litre Vauxhall engine with 15 inch wheels and cycle wings. This has been an exciting addition to our Westfield stable and we have enjoyed several trips with it. It also leaves us with a spare Westfield which could doubtless give others a taste of the good life in a seven.
We are hiring out the Westfield to all you interested and enthusiastic drivers who are out there, wanting the most exhilarating experience on four wheels, the road holding and the precise steering that comes with Westfield driving. We will hire a car for either weekends or midweek. Living in the West Country with roads that are much quieter than in urban areas, you will have a break that is every drivers dream in Devon and Cornwall.
After several years of hiring out the Westfield and meeting many enthusiastic Westfield drivers, which has always been a pleasure, we have decided to cease the hire side of the business. The main reason for this is the very high cost of insurance for hire vehicles.
